Leveraging Open Educational Resources for Accessibility

Traditional textbooks can often be difficult to make accessible for students with a variety of disabilities, and this challenge is further complicated by cost and copyright. Open Educational Resources (OER) have the potential to expedite conversion of materials into more accessible formats, and they can be more quickly tailored for any student’s needs. This session will focus on how multiple OER can be integrated with tactile and other resources to make a more effective learning experience. This will be demonstrated with the example of creating graduate-level statistics materials for a student who is blind using both OER and open data sets. Participants will have an opportunity to make and interact with accessible materials.
